The Dell Language Banks

The Dell Language Banks is a by-product of writing the summaries for the Dell Tarzan comics. As I wrote the summaries, I decided to keep track of the Ape language that was used extensively throughout the Dells. It was a rare occurrence for an issue not to use at least one ape word or a non-English word.As I made my way through the summaries, I felt that the dictionary I was putting together should include the Pal-ul-don language, Swahili, and Arabic words. Therefore, I started to refer to it as a language bank and included words from many different cultures.
Often times the Dell comics would have different spellings for the same word. An example: go-mangani - gomangani - go mangani. I tried to combine and include all variations of a word. After the word is the language of its origin followed by the meaning. The abbreviations used are: ape for ape language; Pal for Pal-ul-don; Ara for Arabic; Swa for Swahili; etc.
Under the word definition is a listing of the Dell comic in which the word was found. Sometimes the writer of the story uses the word incorrectly. This is noted following the story number. Under the Dell Number list is a notation if the word was used in a novel. For references to the novels I used Brady’s Burroughs Encyclopedia. The letter abbreviations of the Burroughs novel are the abbreviations used by Henry Heins.
I tried to be as comprehensive as possible. I am sure there are mistakes and omissions. Additions and corrections would be deeply appreciated
