PLOT

Ivory poachers, headed by the beautiful-but-deadly Lyra the She-Devil, Vargo and Fidel, have discovered a large herd of bull elephants and plot to capture them, forcing an East African native tribe to serve as bearers. Tarzan rescues his friends and throws the poachers' weapons into a well. But he is shot out of a tree and imprisoned. When Fidel tries to capture Jane, she manages to escape but the treehouse burns to the ground. Fidel thinks Jane is dead and tells Lyra. Tarzan breaks free when he hears the news and proceeds to the treehouse; he finds the burnt remains of his home and also believes that Jane is dead. A very distressed Tarzan is again captured and tortured. Meanwhile, Jane is desperately trying to find Tarzan and is overcome by exhaustion. She is carried to the native village by an elephant, where she is revived and sets out again to find Tarzan only to be captured by Lyra. Using Jane as a bargaining tool the She-Devil forces Tarzan to help her capture the elephants. . . instead, Tarzan stampedes the herd to kill all the bad guys -- allowing him to rescue Jane.

This was Lex Barker's final Tarzan film. He moved on to other roles, building a fairly successful career starring in European films. Gordon Scott took over as the ape-man in 1955.
