THE WONDERS OF HAGENBECK TIERPARK Pt. II
TUNNEL & UNDERSEA JOURNEY TO THE EARTH'S CORE
TARZAN'S PELLUCIDAR COTTAGE
.
The first reported expedition to earth's hollow core world - Pellucidar - was in 1914 when author Edgar Rice Burroughs described the adventures of scientist Abner Perry and adventurer David Innes. They used Perry's invention to burrow through the lithosphere and mantle and into the region of the inner core which they found to be hollow and life supporting. At the very centre of this inner world was a miniature sun which provided perpetual sunlight which shone on seas and land masses populated by prehistoric life forms.

Fifteen years later Lord Greystoke - Tarzan - led an airship expedition which discovered an north polar opening to Pellucidar.

Late in ERB's career he started his last recounting of Tarzan adventures. Although he did not finish this narrative before his death in 1950 - author Joe Lansdale was commissioned by the Burroughs estate to finish the work using ERB's notes. He reported another portal to Pellucidar in Africa through which Tarzan presumably escaped from the "civilized" surface world to return to the jungle life he loved. Recently we discovered yet another portal to this inner world -- this one in Europe.

Presented here is a photo scrapbook documenting our downward trek to the inner world followed by our exploration of its prehistoric forests and wildlife.
