TARZAN NEWSPAPER STRIPS
Artists Featured in the Daily Strips and Sunday Pages
As we have seen, the strips were closely associated with comic books in the early years as the first comics and many of the foreign editions were composed of reprints of the strips. On August 27, 1939, the daily strip dropped its original four-panel format with text below and adopted the format still in use today. Most of these numbered daily strips have been reprinted in the English comic, Tarzan Adventures.DAILY STRIPS
HAL FOSTER 1929-37
Foster adapted Tarzan of the Apes to strip form. This was reprinted as one of the very first comic books (The Illustrated Tarzan Book No. I - G&D). He eventually took over the Tarzan Sunday page that Maxon had worked on for a six-month period in 1931
REX MAXON 1929-37 ~ #1 to #2508
Maxon was hired by the syndicate to continue drawing a daily strip. In 1931 he also produced a colour Sunday page for a six-month trial period.
