August 19-22
WEDNESDAY ARRIVAL
CHINATOWN
At the end of our 2,000 km journey from Manitobawe
arrive at entrance to the Windy City
- The Nine Dragons Wall -
Modeled after the most sophisticated wall
in BeiHai (North Sea) Park in Beijing,
the Chinatown mural replicates the large dragons
and over 500 smaller dragons painted in red, gold and blue
signifying the Chinese focus on good fortune.
FIELD
MUSEUM
We carry on through bumper-to-bumper "rush"
hour traffic to downtown Chicago
where we encounter another walled area which
has preserved a small remnant of Pal-ul-don wildlife.
The Field Museum and its collections originated
from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition
and the artifacts displayed at the fair. It
occupies the only building remaining from that Expo.
There is a major Edgar Rice Burroughs connection
to the 1893 Columbian Exposition.
