Burroughs Bibliophile Laurence Dunn opens the
"Awards and Speakers" segment of
the Saturday evening celebration
by announcing the first recipient of the Golden Lion Award.

Ron Ely, TV's Tarzan accepts the Golden Lion Award.
Laurence later commented:
"I was that 12-year-old kid again looking up at his TV hero
when I handed Ron Ely that award. What a moment!"
.

Film Tarzan, Casper van Dien, accepts his Gold Lion Award.
Fellow BB Board member and Chicago Mucker Joan Bledig
assists Laurence with the awards.

Al Bohl and daughter Allison Bohl
receive the Golden Lion for their Tarzan documentary
"Tarzan, Lord of the Louisiana Jungle."
.

The Golden Lion awarded to ERB, Inc. is accepted by president Jim Sullos
The ERB, Inc. staff: Willie Jones, Janet Mann, Cathy Mann Wilbanks

The incredible ladies of ERB, Inc.:
Willie Jones, Cathy Mann Wilbanks, Janet Mann
- proudly display their individual awards.

Dr. Bob Zeuschner of the LA SubERBs
calls up ERB, Inc. president Jim Sullos
to introduce the first special guest.

Jim Sullos introduces special guest, Jim Morris,
producer of the Disney movie "John Carter."
.
.

Jim Morris speaks about
the making of the John Carter movie.

It was most interesting to hear about the shooting locations,
the challenges faced by the actors film makers.
.

The audience is most attentive, waiting with bated breath
for the answer to the most important question:
Will there be a sequel? Mr. Morris replies that
there WILL be a sequel, but not right away...

Jim Sullos introduces the special guest
whom so many have been waiting for:
Ms Jane Goodall
the keynote speaker for the 2012 Centennial Dum-Dum!
.

As a prelude to her talk,
Ms Goodall  demonstrated
the appropriate chimpanzee greeting.
She then placed her forehead
against Jim's chest
and he had to pat her in acceptance.

Ms Goodall speaks with humour about how
her early childhood experiences and adventures,
was led by her curiosity for all things.
One example was her waiting in the hen house
for hours to find the answer to the question:
How does the egg come out of the chicken?

Ms Goodall
credits her mother
for encouraging her
to fulfill her curiosity.
.
.
.

Ms. Goodall's captive audience. She delivers her message
in such a gentle voice and a fine sense of  humour.

Lane Batot watches his mentor Ms. Goodall
- like all of us - with admiration for her life's work.
.

Ms Goodall credits ERB's Tarzan of the Apes
for her passion for Africa.
This led her to Africa, to study the chimpanzee,
and  to establish a reserve to protect this species.
.

There was absolute silence over the capacity crowd of ERB
and Ms Goodall fans during her speech.
Ms Goodall received a standing ovation for her speech,
and a resounding chorus of tarmangani yells
that must have rattled the DJ's turntables at the wedding next door!
.

Ms Goodall leaves her appreciative audience
enthralled with her inspiring talk.

Jim Sullos returns to the podium to thank the
evening's speakers and to offer them a few surprises.
.

There are many chuckles at Ms Goodall's
descriptions of chimpanzee antics.

Watching Jim Morris's reaction on receiving Mars.
Tarzan sculptor Joe de Vito is sitting beside Ms Goodall.

Jim Sullos presents Jim Morris
with a large globe of Mars.
.

Ms Goodall is called back
to the stage for her awards.

Ms. Goodall receives
the Golden Lion award.

New Tarzan author, Andy Briggs, and
Jerry Schneider watch intently.
.

Ms Goodall is presented with
Joe de Vito's bronze sculpture of Tarzan.

Formal presentations are concluded,
but none of us want the evening to end.
