A CRAZED CANUCK Part III |
Part 3: Friday: U of L Ekstrom Library: Reception & McWhorter ERB Collection ~ Blues Club
The showing of the Tarzan TV pilot brought us well past our allotted presentation time and since we were running into the scheduled wine and cheese reception being held in the foyer we brought an end to the event. Danton suggested that we run a bit more of the colour footage for those who wanted to stay a bit longer and then we all exited in time to catch George's official ceremonies in the foyer.
As with all the functions George planned for the weekend, the wine and cheese reception was first rate. Guest of Honour Boris Vallejo and his wife Julie Bell were introduced, the University staff were given their due, Danton said a few words, and George graciously made everyone feel welcome.

Following the wine and cheese party, many people took in the Burroughs displays and toured the main McWhorter collection.

Many of us returned to the Huckster Room. Some of the Dum-Dum Ladies' Auxiliary had discovered and made dinner reservations at Central Park Cafe that was featuring a delta blues musician. Mary, Stacy and Rob Greer got a ride to the club with Dick and Ginnie Spargur and Joan, Sue-On, Danton and I joined them and about 20 other BBs later. One of the highlights at the cafe was Waldo's (Bob Hibbard) presentation of personalized souvenir bricks to BBs who had registered early or had requested them via the Internet. Danton impressed the diners, especially Joan, who is a fellow watch collector, with the array of rare pocket watches he had procured during his morning antique crawl. Our stay at the cafe was a long one -- partly because of the good company, partly because of the entertainment -- a blues singer / guitarist with accompanying standup bass player -- but mainly because the chicken ordered by Sue-On arrived two hours late! The chef apologized and tore up the bill. We returned to the Galt bar to mull over the day's events. This, our 37th wedding anniversary, had been a memorable day.
