ROMEO AND JULIET
James Parker (C. Aubrey Smith) and Harry Holt (Neil Hamilton) are looking for the elephants' burial ground with its great storehouse of ivory.. Parker's daughter Jane (Maureen O'Sullivan) arrives unexpectedly with six trunks and Harry allows Jane to join their safari when she shows she can shoot. They are given directions to the burial ground on the Mutia Escarpment by a dying native. The safari travels over dangerous mouintain trails, having to whip their terrified bearers. One bearer falls to his death and Jane is saved from a similar fate by a rope. Two more bearers are lost when attacking hippos overturn their rafts in crocodile infested waters. Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller) is spotted in the trees with a tribe of apes. A bearer is killed a native arrow and Jane suddenly disappears.
STORY SUMMARYTarzan travels through the trees with a terrified Jane. After stopping to rest, he and a chimp pull of parts of her clothing. After killing a leopard with his knife he takes Jane to his lair. They then become acquainted by repearting each other's names. Next Tarzan rides an elephant, rescues another elephant, klls a wildebeest leaving the remains for a lion. When the safari reach Jane they shoot an ape and an enraged, mourning Tarzan kills one of the safari's men. Jane tries to intervene bu Holt shoots and wounds Tarzan. Soon after, a lion attacks Tarzan but he fights and kills it, even in his weakened state. When he is attacked by two more lions he calls elephants for help. Jane finds Tarzan and treats his wound. They go swimming and continue their attempts at communication. When Jane sees the safari appear Tarzan carries her to them at her request. He leaves.
The safari is soon captured by a bizarre pygmy tribe and Jane sends a chimp to Tarzan for help. After surviving many jungle hazards the Chimp reaches Tarzan and they are joined by the elephant herd in their race to save Jane and the safari. Meanwhile, the pygmies have thrown the safari into a pit containing a huge gorilla. Tarzan leaps into the cave to fight the gorilla with his knife while the elephants are destroying the pygmy village. Everyone is rescued from the pit by an elephant. The injured Parker rides a wounded and dying elephant to the burial ground which is in a canyon behind a waterfall. Parker and the elephant die. Jane says goodbye to Holt and stays in the jungle with Tarzan.
