REVIEWS OF THE SERIES

Kevin J. Anderson, New York Times bestselling author of The Dark Between the Stars.
I grew up reading Edgar Rice Burroughs, and his wild, swashbuckling fantastic adventures planted seeds in my imagination that grew like weeds. I had to start writing stories of my own that were as chock full of sense of wonder. When I was in high school, I would haunt the library spinner racks to grab any paperback copy of a John Carter of Mars novel or Tarzan novel (which means I read them all entirely out of order, but loved them nevertheless). Ah, I remember those books with such fondness.
The new  Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. and Grosset & Dunlap editions of Edgar Rice Burroughs Land of Terror are lavish with artwork, tenderness, respect, and nostalgia. Fantastic artwork by the incomparable Bob Eggleton, a fine slipcase, color illustrations inset throughout, clean typesetting, and that marvelous “new book” smell. This edition is like a genuine time machine, taking me back to when I was a starry-eyed young man.

Zavier Leslie Cabarga, author, illustrator, cartoonist, animator, font designer, and publication designer.
It is interesting to remember that when the original hard-backed versions of the ERB novels were first released, the manner of their printing and production was quite standard and prosaic. We may look upon hand-drawn title lettering, and tip-in illustrations—even letterpress printing—as quite exotic now, but it was all par for the course then.
That is why the new Grosset & Dunlap and ERB Inc. editions created by Jim Gerlach come as such a breath of fresh air within the current milleui of computerized tyography and lackluster layout. There’s a lot of heart and soul in Jim's productions, and a master’s eye toward seeking not only to replicate the vintage ERB books, but to add, in some respects, even finer touches. As an aficionado of fine, rare vintage books, Jim has lifted what was, in the 1920s, rather mundane printing into a specialized field of its own.

Jack Bender, Artist, Alley Oop comic strip, 1991-2018.
Can you imagine a 5x7 1/2 book that houses two full color paintings twice that size?  Can you imagine finally getting to see the 27 excellent chapter headpieces carefully drawn by John Coleman Burroughs for the original book, but never published until now?  Can you imagine a slipcase that actually fits the book?
The new edition of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Land of Terror is all of the above. And that’s just for starters.  This book is carefully designed to retain all of the attraction of the first edition with inventiveness rarely seen in today’s book publishing of anything.
A few examples:  The new cover painting retains the mood and style of the time Land of Terror was first published.  Eight drawings by the legendary Roy Krenkel from earlier editions, carefully and tastefully colorized.
And Burroughs is at his best in creating this novel.  It is a good read.  I love books.  I am pleased to be able to add this to my collection.

Stephen Korshak, author  The Paintings of J. Allen St. John
In my opinion the new “Land of Terror” books published by Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. and Grosset & Dunlap , and edited by  Jim Gerlach,  are the definitive editions of this novel.  They include unbelievably gorgeous artwork, beautiful red and blue grained cloth bindings, a newly commissioned dust jacket painting, map endpapers, and more.  If you are an Edgar Rice Burroughs aficionado, or if you are not, this is a must have set!
