Marty Robbins is considered by most to have been country music's most versatile singer. No other vocalist possessed a repertoire encompassing such a broad range of American popular song. He embraced traditional folk ballads, nineteenth century parlor songs, country weepers, honky tonkers, songs of the Old and New West (including his own brilliant compositions), rockabilly, teenage pop ballads and Tin Pan Alley standards. Hawaiian, blues, Tex-Mex and Jamaican music also coexisted on his records and on stage. |
