TARZAN OF THE FUNNIES
by Robert Barrett

Spanning a period of twenty-one years, from 1929 to 1950, this scholarly work -- painstakingly researched by the author -- presents the story behind the creation of the Tarzan newspaper strip, along with "in his own words" information from the master of adventure himself, Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Myths and many past assumptions regarding the strip are put to rest, including how much influence Burroughs and the individual artists, Hal Foster, Rex Maxon, Burne Hogarth, William Juhre, and Ruben Moreira (Rubimor), this book is a "must have" for the Tarzan fan as well as the serious comic strip scholar.

Robert R. Barrett
About the author...
Robert R. Barrett was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, becoming a fan of popular culture at an early age due to the fact that his father loved pulps, radio drama and comedy, newspaper comic strips, and the movies. Introduced by his father to the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1948, he became an instant fan and began to collect Burroughs' books. In the 1960s he expanded his interest to include the Tarzan strips, comics, radio shows, and licensed products. He has been a member of the Burroughs Bibliophiles since 1962 and has contributed are and numerous articles to Burroughs fan magazines. He retired from Boeing Airplane Company in 1995 and has a wife, Gisela, and two married children., Elke and Michael. Tarzan of the Funnies is his first book and he is currently working on a second book, Tarzan of the Air, a history of the Tarzan radio shows.
