The Barsoomian #2 – September 1951
What a difference a month made. Barsoomian #2 looked
a lot better from a reproduction viewpoint and featured a reprint of a
really good article by Darrell C. Richardson. The real surprise to
me was Joe’s final paragraph in his “Kaor” editorial. I had no idea
that ERB Inc. actually had plans to publish new books in 1950-51.
Most of them never got published until the mid- to late-‘60s and mostly
by other publishers. Some more names from ads and letters of fans
who were well-known when I began publishing: Stanleigh B. Vinson, Maurice
B. Gardner, David S. Bluestone and John F. Cooke. It’s hard for me
to believe Stan Vinson actually needed books for his collection.
I had the pleasure of visiting him at his home in 1964 and his collection
was the stuff dreams are made of!
The new cover to this reprint is by David O. Kohr, Jr.
Dave contributed a lot to my first few issues of The Barsoomian and we
actually co-published issue #10 at his parent’s home in Philadelphia.
He also published two issues of “The Amtorian” around the same time.
He kind of dropped out of fandom after our joint effort and I never heard
from him again.
