INTRODUCTION BY LAURENCE DUNN
Long before my meeting him, Frank Westwood, 20 years my senior, had been a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs from his youth. In time, he began to correspond with Ed’s family, first with Hulbert Burroughs, and later with Michael Pierce, son of James and Joan Pierce, then finally with Danton Burroughs. He also managed to have a particularly good understanding with Bob Hodes, manager of ERB Inc for several years. Had Bob remained in his position, Frank’s relationship with the company may well have been very different.

Although any initial hope that Frank might have entertained of joining the retinue of ERB Inc. disappeared when Hodes departed, Frank contacted the company again offering his ability to act as a European agent for them. In return, Frank believed he could supply them with a way to prevent further novels of ERB falling into public domain. He was turned down.

After Frank passed in 2013, I was charged with dismantling his collection, the vast majority of it going to members of the British ERB Society that he had co-founded in 1974. Amongst his belongings was his correspondence with Ed’s family and staff at ERB Inc. that I have held onto. Now that his long term girlfriend Doreen Schlessinger has passed, it is time that those letters be made available.

From John Coleman Burroughs to Gordon Landsborough previous to his business trip to Enland.
Landsborough began Four Square Book and Dragon Books -

the latter in which he edited several Tarzan and Mars stories to suit young children.
His visit to England encouraged Frank to launch his ERB fanzine and organize the British ERB Society.
Unfortunately only the first page is in the folder.
